Hello there! Feels weird writing a brand new introduction after over a decade of content creation, but here we are.
My name’s Flowergothic. Well, not really— my real name is Julia, but I go by Flowergothic and Flower online. I’ve been writing, scripting, and stage-whispering online since the days when Tumblr felt like a séance and YouTube was still unpredictable. I make a wide variety of content, from deep-dive exposés on public figures (like the Max Verstappen & Kelly Piquet situation) to longform video essays on internet culture.
I also publish a newsletter on Substack also titled “Flowergothic’s Fractured Fables”. So why am I posting here?
Well, I recently learned Substack has an issue with something I call “free speech absolutism”. They’ve refused to take action against accounts spreading hate speech, white supremacy, and other forms of extremism under the guise of “protecting freedom of expression”. And because of the way Substack’s subscription model works, these creators are allowed to profit from their bigotry— with Substack taking a cut.
That doesn’t sit right with me. My work is about exposing manipulation, not indirectly funding it.
But, much like Twitter (No, I will never call it “X”), a lot of the people I’m trying to reach haven’t abandoned the platform yet. So for now, I’m staying visible there while building here.
For the next couple days, I’ll be re-posting my Substack work here twice day, including my “Lazy Thoughts” series of F1 race recaps. The goal is to have the full archive migrated before Sunday’s race in Hungary, so I can cross-post from that point forward.
And just like the Substack, this Beehiiv won’t have a paid subscription option (yet). I’m still deciding what I’d actually offer.
